Low Emission Vans

We can’t foresee the future at Road Tax Prices, but it’s pretty much accepted that the current structure of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED or Road Tax) is being reviewed by transport ‘boffins’ within the Department of Transport (DoT). It has also been suggested, and certainly within the realms of possibility, that the DoT will look to move the van and LGV - not over 3,500kg revenue weight - vehicle tax structure in line with the current CO2 emissions based system.

Under such a scheme, the higher the amount of CO2 a van would generate, the more you would pay as the owner. Environmental lobbyists are turning their attention to the +1.6 million of UK small businesses who use a van on a daily basis.

Van manufacturers are also now focussing on developing new models that have less CO2 emissions without lowering engine performance. Everything points to the fact that low van emissions will dictate road tax levels in the near future. Put yourself in ‘road tax’ pole position and read our guide to the least polluting green van models currently available.
